Fresno Breast Cancer Navigator Pilot Program

San Joaquin Valley Health Consortium, in partnership with our co-principal investigators: University Medical Center , UCSF, and the Central California Health Policy Institute, is embarking upon an exciting18-month pilot research project funded by the California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP). The CBCRP is administered by the University of California , Office of the President, in Oakland .

The Fresno Breast Cancer Navigator Pilot Project received grant funding as one of 53 new research grants awarded in Cycle 12 (2006). Projects are designed to advance knowledge about the causes, socio-cultural aspects, biology, detection, and treatment of breast cancer.

The Fresno Breast Cancer Navigator Pilot Program will identify barriers in the health care process where racial/ethnic and insurance disparities occur. Based on findings, we intend to continue the community-participatory approach to design a navigation service that responds to the diversity within our community and health system. The pilot project will prepare for a larger project that tests health and cost impacts of this service.
