The California Poison Control System (CPCS) is the statewide provider of immediate, free and expert treatment advice and assistance by telephone in case of exposure to poisonous and hazardous substances. The CPCS is accessible to both consumers and medical professionals, toll-free, 24/7, 365 days a year.

CPCS helps Californians during major public health events. Public and health care professionals regularly call CPCS for rapid and reliable aide during these incidents. CPCS also participates in planning, education, and training activities with local, regional, and state organizations:

Planning and education sessions on topics such as West Nile virus, smallpox, anthrax and cyanide exposure

Participation in the Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) of CDHS

CPCS is involved in developing and implementing statewide and nationwide online real-time surveillance of poison calls to quickly spot trends and identify rapidly developing public health and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) issues. Those calls include infectious diseases, radiation, chemical spills, pesticides and other hazardous materials incidents and questions.
